Dutch Theater Group Orkater will stage a production of Shakespeare’s Richard III with live music written by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan in Amsterdam from Sept 22th to Oct 12th.
Renowned Dutch theater production company Orkater and Amsterdam’s main theater De Stadsschouwburg have announced the staging of Shakespeare’s Richard III. Orkater and De Stadsschouwburg adapted the Shakespeare play and created a music theater performance with music by Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan. Orkater’s musical director Vincent van Warmerdam states “just like Shakespeare did, Waits and Brennan incorporate poetry, provocation, seduction and irony in their songs. Their music illustrates, mirrors and strengthens Richard’s character.” Richard is played by Dutch actor Gijs Scholten van Aschat, who will perform the songs by Waits and Brennan with a musical group called The Sadists, led by Vincent van Warmerdam. Among the songs performed in the play are “Misery Is The River Of The World”, “God’s Away On Business”, “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up”, “I’ll Shoot The Moon”, “Underground” and “The Part You Throw Away”.
Richard III is playing exclusively in De Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam from September 22nd till October 12th. Tickets go on sale Thursday May 6th. They are available on +31 (0) 20 624 2311. For further information on ticket sales go here.
